TAAL Architects embarked on a mission to create a contemporary vernacular architecture that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. Situated on the outskirts of the picturesque Baegun Mountain, the Southern Forest Education & Research Center at Seoul National University transcends mere functionality. It serves as a nexus for the collection, propagation, conservation, and education of Korean native plants while fostering a symbiotic relationship between humanity and the environment.
Architectural Philosophy
The design ethos behind the Seoul National University Southern Conference Rim Research Building emphasizes a holistic approach to architectural integration. Rather than imposing upon the landscape, the structure seeks to coexist harmoniously with the terrain, mirroring the organic growth patterns of wildflowers and trees. This ethos extends to the building’s aesthetic, where understated elegance underscores a commitment to architectural authenticity.
Communion with Nature
Central to the architectural narrative is the establishment of a synesthetic relationship between users and nature.
