Redefining Retail Workspace by Onion

Redefining Retail Workspace by Onion

A Legacy of Innovation

Boonthavorn, a renowned building material retailer in Thailand, has been a staple since its inception in 1977. From humble beginnings selling home decoration materials, Boonthavorn quickly distinguished itself through innovative retail practices, offering personalized service and expert advice to customers. Over the years, it expanded its product range to include kitchenware, furniture, and more, establishing itself as a leader in the industry.

The Evolution of Workspace

In collaboration with Onion, Boonthavorn embarked on a new venture: Workspace, a three-story material library and co-working space located within the Boonthavorn Design Village in Ratchaphruek. This innovative concept aimed to provide a comprehensive working environment for young designers, complete with access to a vast array of building materials and resources, all free of charge.

Bridging Design and Accessibility

Workspace addresses two key objectives: facilitating the design process for young creatives and showcasing practical, affordable building materials suitable for use in Thailand. The space is strategically designed with four distinct zones, each dedicated to specific types of materials and working environments. From the co-working space adjacent to a cafe and outdoor terrace to the mezzanine-level material library, every aspect is curated to foster creativity and collaboration.

Immersive Material Exploration

At the heart of Workspace is its material library, featuring modular shelving systems stocked with architectural samples and glass inserts. Designers can interact with materials firsthand, gaining insights into textures, colors, and manufacturers. Additionally, private meeting rooms offer a conducive setting for formal presentations and client consultations, ensuring that every aspect of the design process is catered to.

Elevating the Experience

As visitors ascend through the space, they encounter a diverse range of material displays, from hanging carpets and curtains to laminate samples covering entire walls. The layout is carefully orchestrated to maximize visual connections and encourage exploration. Ultimately, Workspace by Onion redefines the retail experience, seamlessly integrating design, accessibility, and innovation into a multifunctional environment tailored to the needs of today’s creative professionals.
