Redefining Urban Retail Shanghai W0311 Select Store by Mountain Soil Interior Design
Urban Context
Located at Yard 1361, Yuyuan Road, Changning District, Shanghai, the Shanghai W0311 Select Store is housed within a sub-along-street compound building spanning approximately 140 square meters. Its predecessor was a concealed tea room, seamlessly blending with the architectural style of the surrounding residential structures. However, due to the surrounding buildings, the indoor space experiences relatively low brightness.
Architectural Integration
Mountain Soil Interior Design repositioned the entire space by integrating various elements of the surrounding environment. Semi-open arched treatments in the entrance areas facilitate dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering cohesion within the indoor environment.
Soft Design Elements
The interior space features windows with patterns of orthogonal cut corners, creating a unique aesthetic. By employing flexible curves and blurring traditional window forms, the design team successfully mitigated conflicts and tensions within the space.
Spatial Configuration
Large-scale white treatments define the building’s interior, while embedded soft films address brightness issues. Designers incorporated natural forms from mountains and forests into the product-retailing region, transforming them into space columns and planes to extend the visual space.
Conclusion
The Shanghai W0311 Select Store by Mountain Soil Interior Design transcends traditional retail spaces by harmonizing urban elements with innovative design concepts. Through architectural integration, soft design elements, and thoughtful spatial configuration, the store offers a unique and immersive retail experience that reflects its urban context while fostering connection and cohesion within the space.
