Tangning Books, nestled within Si Hai Cheng Plaza in Guangzhou’s Panyu District, stands as a testament to architectural transformation and narrative-driven design. In collaboration with Leaping Creative, the bookstore underwent a remarkable metamorphosis to embody the essence of community, culture, and creativity.
Reimagining Space
Originally a structure associated with a terrace racecourse, the building posed architectural challenges with its low ceiling and irregular layout. Leaping Creative embarked on a journey to revitalize the space, reimagining it as a haven for literary enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs.
Enhancing Spatial Flow
To combat the oppressive atmosphere of the low ceiling, Leaping Creative ingeniously removed floor slabs, creating a double-height space adorned with a small terraced theater. The incorporation of a glass curtain wall not only expanded the visual expanse but also fostered a seamless connection between interior and exterior.
Embracing Minimalism and Natural Elements
Preserving exposed concrete columns, the design team maintained a minimalist aesthetic, accentuating the raw beauty of natural textures. A refined color palette and subtle lighting schemes further imbued the space with a sense of tranquility and sophistication.
