Pioneering Greenhouse Construction: Inagro Agrotopia Research Center

In collaboration with Hedafor, a group company affiliated with Deforche Construction Group, innovative climate solutions were employed in the construction of the Inagro Agrotopia research center. Nestled in Belgium, this groundbreaking greenhouse rests atop a new logistics shed belonging to the fruit and vegetable auction Reo in Roeselare. The design seamlessly integrates the greenhouse into an L-shaped volume, spanning an impressive 9,000m² and resting on the concrete plinth of the warehouse. Hedafor oversaw every aspect of the project, from design and production to installation, research, climate control, technology integration, and ongoing maintenance.

Leveraging Venlo Greenhouse Technology

The construction of the Inagro Agrotopia Research Center utilized the renowned Venlo greenhouse system from Hedafor. This system features single-tempered glazing encased in clear aluminum profiles, ensuring optimal conditions for plant growth and research endeavors.

Versatile Climate Zones and Innovative Design

Agrotopia boasts four distinct climate zones tailored for diverse fruit and vegetable cultivation, alongside dedicated spaces for research and education. Ingeniously designed box-in-box areas within the greenhouse provide customized climates for various research and educational activities. The facility also includes a double-height conservatory for vertical cultivation, maximizing sunlight exposure through a unique horizontal faceted construction.

Sustainable Practices and Circular Design

Embracing sustainability, the greenhouse incorporates rainwater collection and recycling systems for irrigation, fostering a closed-loop water cycle. Additionally, it harnesses residual heat from a nearby waste incinerator, demonstrating a commitment to circular symbiosis with the city and reducing environmental impact. Despite challenges, the seamless integration of steel and concrete has resulted in an architecturally exceptional public building in Roeselare.
